German or Spanish physicists hoping for a career change involving a move to London at the end of the year and taking charge of the European Medicines Agency have had their hopes dashed.

It turns out, not surprisingly, that the person who will replace Thomas Lönngren as executive director of the EMA when he leaves at the end of this year should ideally be a physician – or a pharmacist, or a veterinarian, but not, alas, an expert in physics...
