Publication bias on the agenda again

German health technology assessment institute IQWiG has renewed its call for legislation to make the prospective registration of clinical trials mandatory and to compel trial sponsors to publish the full results of all trials in a results database.

The demand comes in a new study, published last month in the open access journal Trials1, which analysed bias in the reporting of trials of around 50 different surgical (eg vacuum-assisted closure therapy), diagnostic (eg ultrasound), pharmacological and preventive (eg cancer vaccines) interventions in approximately 40 indications...
