The countries negotiating the proposed international Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement (ACTA) have said that they are committed to "resolving remaining substantive issues" at the next round of talks, which are to take place in Japan in September1.
The pharmaceutical industry is interested in the treaty as it addresses the enforcement of intellectual property rights, particularly customs seizures of counterfeit medicines, but non-governmental organisations are concerned about how the treaty may affect access to (Indian-made) generic medicines in developing countries...
