Former US FDA leader Goddard dies aged 86

Dr James Goddard, the commissioner of the US Food and Drug Administration between January 1966 and July 1968, has died at the age of 86.

Dr Goddard helped overhaul the FDA in the wake of mounting Congressional criticism on a host of topics; his major accomplishments at the agency included spearheading, in co-operation with the National Academy of Sciences, the carrying out of efficacy reviews of about 4,000 pre-1962 drugs...
