Pharmaceutical crime – ie producing counterfeit medicines and illegally diverting or stealing drugs – is on the rise, according to data from the Pharmaceutical Security Institute, which found the number of incidents rose from 1,834 in 2008 to 2,003 in 2009.
PSI, which has been collecting data for the last eight years for the pharma industry (see table below), says improved data collection, more law enforcement efforts and greater public awareness have all contributed to the identification of a large number of incidents...
